| The subsequent weekly issues covered the highlights of the tour, so the ‘Royal Home Coming’ special of November 24, 1951.
(Appendix List No. 141) has as its main
coverage the arrival of the ‘Empress of Scotland’ at Liverpool
on November 17 and the welcome by the Earl of Derby, Lord Lieutenant of
Lancashire. Other scenes are the arrival at Euston station; the drive
to Buckingham Palace; the procession to Guildhall for the City’s
Official Reception on November 19 and the luncheon held there in their
honour. In Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s toast to the royal
couple he said: “There are no limits to the majestic future which
lies before the mighty expanse of Canada, with its virile, cultured and
generous-hearted people”, thus focussing the world’s attention
on the success of the tour. This is issue number 5875, vol. 219, pages 829-876, measuring 37 x 26
cm and priced at two shillings. |
