The fo1lowing week, April 11, 1953, withe publication of the ‘The Funeral and Lying-in-State of H.M. Queen Mary’ number
(Appendix List No. 146). Here are pictures
of the procession from Marlborough House to Westminster Hall on March
29 for the Lying-in-State with the four royal Dukes (Edinburgh, Windsor,
Gloucester and Kent) following the gun-carriage bearing the coffin of
Queen Mary; the Lying-in-State in Westminster Hall with the coffin set
on a catafalque on a stepped dais and draped with the Alexandra Pall;
the last tribute as thousands of people filed past the bier to pay their
last respects; the funeral and burial service in St. George’s Chapel,
Windsor; the memorial service in St. Paul’s Cathedral and the official
and private tributes of flowers.
The cover is the normal advertising wrapper with the words indicating
the special nature of the issue printed at the top. (in some cases this
did not appear as a header)
