France’s hospitality to the Queen and Prince Philip in 1957 was reciprocated in 1960 when President and Mme. de Gaulle made a State visit to England. On April 16, 1960, the ILN published a special issue entitled ‘The State visit of the President of the French Republic’
(Appendix List No. 161). This visit lasted
from April 5 to April 8. The pages of the magazine show such highlights
as their arrival at Victoria station; the drive to Buckingham Palace;
the State banquet; the ceremonial luncheon at Guildhall; the review of
the Household Troops on Horse Guards Parade; the Gala Performance at Covent
Garden and their departure from London Airport.
The cover illustration and words are exactly the same as the issue published
at the tine of the 1950 State Visit of President and Mme. Auriol (see
Appendix List No. 137).
